The town is located in eastern North Carolina’s Pamlico County, just below the point where the Neuse River flows into the Pamlico Sound, the second largest sound on the East Coast after the Chesapeake Bay. The Neuse River, the widest mouthed in the US, is five miles across at this point, and five navigable creeks meet here. Because of its unique setting, Oriental is perhaps best known as homeport to some of the East Coast’s finest sailing. Here boats outnumber citizens three to one!
